The next day, Eric is hardly thinking about Heather. If he doesn’t show up at her place, it’s not that big of a deal… yet. But more importantly, he has been thinking about how to get John and Christa to part even further without her knowing. The last stunt was too much.

Christa is taking a shower and he can hear her singing loud and clear. He takes it upon himself to call John. He hasn’t heard from him, but he doesn’t want to give John the impression he’s mad.

Eric clears his throat, “Hey man, how’s it going? Haven’t heard from you in a bit. I thought you wanted to visit more often?” Almost as soon as he gets on the phone, he gets a notification - he just can’t look at it yet.

“Yeah, I’m not sure if I should really be there without Paige, y’know? I kinda feel like the third wheel.”

“If you’re talking about what happened last time, I’m sorry about that. I just got carried away. And she obviously liked it, right?” Eric plays it cool, but inside he’s laughing; his plan went exactly how he wanted it to go, and John has backed off.

Another notification dings Eric’s in his ear.

“I’m not saying she didn’t like it. I’m sayin’... come on man. You just don’t do that. I’m trying to stay out of your relationship, not become a part of it!”

Eric laughs, “Dude seriously? It wasn’t like that, but I appreciate your concern. Seriously, we just got carried away.”

“I don’t know, I’m sure you didn’t have to pull up her shirt like that.”

“There’s a lot about our relationship you don’t know, okay? Just... take it from me when I tell you, it’s fine. I just, really like her. I wasn’t thinking of you at the time at all. I knew you were there, but it was about her.” He pauses only to allow John to think, “Do you understand what I’m saying? Don’t make me say it out loud…”

Another notification.

John sighs, confused, “Oh shit. Oh SHIT. Okay, okay man. HA! Okay, yeah, I see what you mean.” Then there’s more silence, “Okay, what do you mean?”

Eric closes his eyes. He’s on the verge of laughing again. On top of that, it seems there’s no harm, no foul. John was too good of a friend of his - he’s glad he had his back. He was impressed. “She likes the idea of an audience.”

“Uh, wow man, that’s… that’s awesome. I’m happy for you.”

The comment seems odd to say in response, “What do you mean?”

“Nah, nothing. So, are we good for some time tonight?”

He figures John is just a bit embarrassed to talk about their sexual activities - which is what Eric didn’t want to have to explain in the first place, so he lets it go. “Why do you want out of there so bad?”

“It’s just nice to see people, y’know? You gotta give me a break, I’ve been by myself for a month. This lockdown thing is killing me.
